Vegan Croissants/ Pain Au Chocolats

Two of my favourite breakfasts and snacks are croissants and pain au chocolats, they are perfect for any occasion! I was super excited to create these vegan croissants & pain au chocolats.


This recipe is super easy to follow and once the pastry is made is pretty quick too.


I used pre made pastry for this recipe but you can find our puff pastry recipe here.


When we were younger, we used to eat croissants when we went to France to visit my Grandparents. We enjoyed them in so many different ways; as sandwhiches, warmed up, cold, with cheese, just buttered. There are so many different ways to enjoy them!


Often on a long journey, even now, we still enjoy some croissants or pain au chocolats.


This recipe makes 9 pain au chocolats or 6 croissants.

To make the croissants;


Cut the pastry into large triangles.


If you want to make them chocoalte croissants you can use the chocolate spread from the pain au chocolats and spread them over the pastry.


Roll the end to the pointy end of the triangle.


Pull the ends towards you, gently, to create the traditional croissant shape.

Brush with milk and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden and crispy.

To make the pain au chocolats;


In a small bowl, mix the butter and cocoa powder to create a soft spread.


Spread it, gently, over the whole of the pastry.


Cut the pastry into rectangles roughly 4"x2"

Place your chocolate down both smaller sides.


Roll the sides until they meet in the middle.


Turn them upside and place them on your baking tray.


Brush with milk and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Croissants/ Pain Au Chocolate - Makes 9 Pain Au Chocolats or 6 Croissants


Ingredients


Both;

1 Packet Puff Pastry Sheets - Check out our puff pastry recipe here

Milk to glaze - I used oat milk but any plant based milk will work.


Pain au Chocolates;

40g Chocolate - I used Moo Free original chocolate but any plant based chocolate will work.

2 tbsp Butter - I used flora but any plant based butter will work.

1 tbsp Cocoa Powder


Method


Preheat the oven 180C and prepare a large baking tray


Croissants;


Cut your pastry into large triangles.


Roll from the bottom end to the pointy end of the triangle and pull the ends towards you slightly.


Brush with milk.


Pain au Chocolates;


In a small bowl mix the butter and cocoa powder together to create a soft spread.


Spread over all of the pastry


Cut the pastry into rectangles roughly 4” x 2”


Cut your chocolate into strips roughly 2”


Place a piece of chocolate down the 2” sides of the pastry.


Roll both the sides, around the chocolate, until they meet in the middle.


Turn them over and place on your baking tray


Brush with milk.


Both;


Bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy


Serve
