Vegan Floral Focaccia

I decided to try my hand at focaccia art by starting with this simple vegan Floral Focaccia. Personally I love the taste of cooked onion and it added some delicious flavours into the simple bread recipe.

This floral focaccia is impressive to see and is a great one to bring out when you have friends or family around.

This is just my first attempt at focaccia art and I am looking forward to trying other patterns and pictures as well, using all sorts of vegetables.

If you are interested in trying some focaccia art, I would definitely look online at other art you can make with the vegetables and salad you already have in the fridge. There are so many options and ideas to look through.

The bread itself is just a simple recipe that is easy to make and tastes great. Whatever you top is with is likely to blend it's flavouring into the dough as it cooks. So, you will need to use vegetables that you like the taste of, not just the look.

This recipe makes plenty of bread that will definitely keep you going for a few days, or it would be perfect for sharing with friends and family.

I hope you love this as much as I do!

Floral Focaccia

Ingredients:

1 ⅓ Cup Warm Water

2 tsp Sugar

7g Fast Acting Yeast - I use Easy Bake from the supermarket

3 ¾ Cup Plain Flour

¼ Cup Olive Oil + more for greasing

Topping:

1 Small Red Onion

3-5 Spring Onions

Method

Sift the Flour into a large bowl.

Mix in the oil.

Then mix in the yeast, sugar and water to create dough.

Knead for five minutes.

Oil a large mixing bowl and place the dough inside.

Cover and let rise for 1 ½ hours or until it has doubled in size. If you leave it in a warm place it will rise faster.

Preheat the oven to 200c.

Prepare your onions to top.

Cut the spring onions in half.

Dice ¼ of the red onion.

With the rest of the red onion cut into slices from the centre outwards.

When the dough has risen, use your fingers to spread it onto an oiled oven tray.

Place your onions on top of the dough to form flower shapes, sprinkling the diced onion at the bottom.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Serve

Enjoy.
