Vegan Garlic Doughballs

The weather seems to have turned a little colder the last couple of days, we are very sad to see the sun go and hope it comes back soon. While we wait for the sunny weather to return why don't you try these amazing vegan garlic doughballs, it's comfort food at it's best!

These are easy to make, they look impressive and they taste ridiculously good!

This recipe makes 32 so there is enough to share around the whole family with some left overs too!

These can be stored in an air tight container, and still enjoyed, until they go hard which is around a week.

You can double the garlic butter recipe if you would like extra for some dip; it makes a great dip for chips and pizza too.

These garlic doughballs go great with most meals; with pizza, on the side of a pasta bake, just with some salad and so much more! You can't go wrong with these!

They are super easy to make, it's a great recipe for beginners and for your children to join in with if they like to help.

This is what the garlic doughballs look like after their second prove. As you can see they get quite large.

I put mine about 2cm apart for the prove (letting the dough rise) so they would become tear and share, you can put them further apart so they are completely seperate.

This is the doughballs just before they go in the oven. As you can see I have smothered them in garlic butter. I love it this way but you may want less butter. You can put half the butter on and leave the other half as a dip if you don' want them to be as garlicy.

Garlic Doughballs - Makes 32

Ingredients

Dough;

450g Plain Flour

1 tsp Easy Bake Yeast - This is instant yeast, it works straight away without having to sit in mix first.

1 tsp Salt

300ml Warm Water

6 tbsp Olive Oil

Garlic Butter;

100g Butter - I use Flora but you can use any plant based butter

2 Cloves Garlic - Minced

You can add parsley to the garlic butter, this is mostly used to show which is the garlic if you have other flavours at the table.

Method

Dough;

In a large bowl sift the flour.

Add the yeast and salt. Stir to combine them.

Make a well in the center of the flour mix and add the water and 5 tbsp of oil.

Stir with a fork until it starts to become a dough and then knead the it for 5 minutes to become a smooth dough.

Spread the last tbsp of oil in a large bowl.

Add the dough, cover with a clean tea towel and place in a warm place for 60-90 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.

Knead the dough again, to knock the air out.

Cut the dough into 32 equal pieces; Cut the dough in half, half again, half again and continue until you have 32 equal pieces.

Roll each one into balls.

Cover a large baking tray or two with parchment. I made mine tear and share, I placed them roughly 2cm apart in a round baking tin (I had to use 3).

Place the balls on the parchment, cover loosely with cling film and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes.

Garlic Butter;

Soften the butter

Mix the garlic in. You can add parsley to the mix, this is mostly used to show it's a garlic flavour if you have other flavours on the table.

Finishing the garlic doughballs;

Preheat the oven 180C

Spread the garlic butter over the dough balls.

Bake for 12-15 minutes.

Serve

Enjoy!
