Vegan Heart Churros

Writer: Marisa's Vegan RecipesMarisa's Vegan Recipes

If you have been following my blog for a while, you would have seen we have made churros before. Churros are one of my all time favourite sweet treats!

When Katie and I were in Spain, I ate so many churros! They had them at the hotel with every meal and I just couldn't helo myself!

These vegan heart churros are the perfect valentines treat/gift/dessert! Anyone you make these for will be so impressed and so inlove with them! You can create a chocolate dip for them, or dip half of the churro in chocolate and then put some sprinkles on them, that would make them look extra special!

This recipe is so easy to follow but creates something amazing!

The recipe only takes about 5 minutes to make and then you fry each churro for less than 2 minutes each, so it's a super quick one.

Check out our valentines day page here, for more dinner, gift/snack and dessert ideas!

This recipe is amazing for any time of year; want to surprise your partner with a romantic treat or date night, want to make something super impressive but easy with the kids, an impressive treat for a meeting or party, or let them cool completely for a super tasty summer treat.

They are good hot or cold!

You can easily change the shape, pipe out different shapes and patterns to impress even more or simplify if that's what you want.

I hope you all like these are much as I do!

Heart shaped Churros - Makes 6

Ingredients

1 cup Water

2 ½ tbsp Caster Sugar

2 tbsp Veg Oil

½ cup Plain Flour

1-2 tsp Vanilla Essence

2-3 cup Veg Oil for frying

Coating

½ cup Caster Sugar

2 tsp Cinnamon

Melted Chocolate for dipping

Method

* Boil the water in a medium sized saucepan.

* Then add the sugar until it has dissolved.

* Add the veg oil and remove from the heat.

* Sift the flour and mix into the rest of the ingredients. If the mix is too runny you can add more flour.

* In another saucepan heat up the oil for frying, it will need to be about 165C - 175C Once the oil has reached the right temperature, turn the hob to a medium heat so it keeps the heat but doesn't keep getting even hotter.

* Once the oil is up to temperature, start piping the churro mix out onto little squares of parchment. Use a star nozzle to get the traditional star shape churro.

* Once you have piped out your lovely hearts, now it’s time to fry them, try to only do one at a time, as this makes it easier to not overcook them. Place the hearts in the oil, carefully, with the baking parchment on the top. Once the churro starts to cook the baking parchment will come off.

* Using a slotted spatula, turn the churros and cook evenly, take them out while they are still soft, so they don't go solid when cooled. It takes roughly 30 seconds - 1 minute on each side. Cook until golden brown and then flip.

* Let sit for a minute before coating them in the cinnamon sugar.

Cinnamon Sugar:

* Mix the sugar and cinnamon together.

* Coat your churros.

You can melt some chocolate to have as a dipping sauce if you would like.

I highly recommend this!

Serve

Enjoy!
