Custard is one of Joss's favourites so of course I had to get his stamp of approval; he loved it and ate it all in one go.
My mum is another custard lover that I would have left to test this recipe on, but unfortunately due to lockdown I wasn't able to see her. I plan to make her some of this vanilla custard as soon as I can.
I have never been a big fan of custard, I would avoid it or have cream at dessert time. However this vanilla custard tastes great! It's sickly if you eat to much, which to me signifies a good dessert, it's smooth and great hot or cold!
Maxine, my 2 year old daughter, thoroughly enjoyed this and of course spread it everywhere.
I made my custard a little thicker but if you like your custard runnier you can take it off the heat a little earlier.
I have written to add turmeric because it helps add the colour, however you may not need it.
You can see in this picture I made the custard super yellow, that's because my mix was the right colour before I added the turmeric but I added it anyway because it is good for you.
It's up to you if you want to add the extra colour and you can add even less than is on the recipe.

Custard - Serves 4 Generously
Ingredients
2 Cups Milk - I use Oat milk but any plant based milk should work
½ Cup Syrup of choice - I used golden syrup but you can use maple or even agave nectar.
3 tbsp Cornflour
¼ tsp Turmeric (Optional) This is to colour the custard. Please see above for health benefits of turmeric.
1 tsp Vanilla
Method
Mix ¼ cup milk with cornflour in a small bowl.
In a saucepan add this, the remaining mix and syrup.
Boil on a medium heat until the mix thickens - You can choose the thickness that you would like your custard to be. I change the thickness I make this depending on what I'm making it for.
Add the vanilla and turmeric, mix to combine.
Serve fresh or keep in the fridge until needed - If keeping it in the fridge I suggest covering the surface of this to ensure it doesn't develop a film.
Enjoy!
